Stand out with artwork that’s as thoughtful as your products

Custom illustrations add personality and emotional connection, which is something stock imagery or AI-generated visuals simply can’t capture.

Every piece I create is drawn by hand with care, crafted to elevate your brand and deepen engagement with your customers.

The illustration process

Research

After collecting your detailed brief, I’ll go over the details and any inspiration / references you’ve provided as well as search for my own.

I may come back to you with a list of ideas and a mood board prior to sketching depending on how much concepting is required for the project.

Sketch

I’ll then start roughly sketching different compositions to see what works best and choose the strongest sketch for your initial feedback.

It’s always best to make any major compositional/element changes at this early sketching stage.

Refine

Next, I’ll fine-tune the illustrations based on feedback and send over a colour palette (if applicable) so you get a feel for the final look.

The number of refinements included will be noted on your quote and agreement, however we will work together to ensure everything is perfect!

Deliver

I’ll then move onto producing the final art.

Once everything is approved, I’ll send over a final invoice. After payment, I’ll prepare all of the final high res files and send a link to download on Google Drive.

FAQs

  • No, I currently only do commercial work for businesses as the effort, time, and budget required to complete illustrations means my custom work is not practical for personal use projects.

  • Because each project is unique, pricing will vary depending on the scope.

Custom illustrations and patterns need to factor in: the complexity, quantity, time constraints (e.g. if it is a ‘rush’ job) and licensing rights (where the illustration is used/printed, the geographical area in which it will be used, exclusivity, how long it will be used for).

Feel free to grab my Pricing & Services Guide which provides ballpark pricing scenarios to get you started. Please contact me to discuss your project details and to receive an accurate quote.

  • When it comes to commissioning an illustrator, there are a few things to have ready that can really help get the ball rolling with your initial enquiry, including:

    • A project description

    • Number and type of illustrations required

    • Timeframe and deadline

    • Where/how will the finished illustration/s be used? E.g. packaging (product for sale), gift wrap, website, greeting card

    • Geographical area of use: Australia only, globally?

    • Period of use: How long do you want to use the illustration for? E.g. 12 months, 2 years

    • Style references

    • Ideal budget

I will send you a questionnaire to gather this information if you haven’t already provided upfront.

  • A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot in my schedule. Any job value $650 and under is to be paid in full upfront. Payment via direct deposit is preferred (for Australian clients), but I also accept credit card payments via Stripe (with a small processing fee added). For large projects, I’m happy to do a payment plan split into 3 instalments.

  • Licensing is essentially an agreement that allows clients to use artwork for their required commercial purposes without paying for a copyright transfer (which would be a significant cost increase). Think of it like ‘renting’. You don’t own it but can use it for a specific time and purpose. Below is a basic breakdown of standard licensing terms.

    NON-EXCLUSIVE:

The illustrator can license the artwork to more than one client and also use it themselves however they wish (for example, make art prints, sell as digital downloads, make available for sale on POD sites such as Spoonflower etc). Copyright ownership remains with the illustrator.

    INDUSTRY-EXCLUSIVE:

Artwork is exclusive for a specific term and industry/category (e.g. greeting cards, home decor etc) but can also be licensed to other brands in non-competing/different industries (e.g. baby clothes etc). Copyright ownership remains with the illustrator at all times.

    FULLY EXCLUSIVE:

Artwork is exclusive to one brand only, meaning it will not not be licensed to anyone else during the term. If the brand decides not to re-license at the end of the term, then the artwork is available to license with another brand. Copyright ownership remains with the illustrator at all times.

  • Projects that involve entirely new illustrations are typically provided with fully exclusive rights (to you and no one else) for a set term (e.g. 1 year, 2 years). However, this can be negotiated depending on your budget.

  • Custom projects take a minimum of 3 weeks from commencement to completion or even longer depending on the scope. Scheduling of projects is handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
